Frequently Asked Questions

Is food provided on the hikes?

Your guided hike or walk includes snacks such as granola bars and juice boxes for your enjoyment on all hikes except the Village and Nature walks. Full lunch services for before, during or after your hike may also be provided upon request for an extra cost.

How do I know I will be safe on the hike?

Each trail or path that is used during your walk or hike is continually maintained by the GVRD Parks and Recreation all season long. All guides are equipped with standard first aid kits and are trained in First Aid and CPR.

Should I bring my camera?

We definitely encourage you to bring your camera along with you because there will be plenty of opportunities to take extraordinary pictures of you and your family or friends with the great BC mountains in the background. Our guides will be happy to take some candid shots for you!

Will I see any animals on the hike?

Visitors can expect to see lots of wildlife on this 20-square-mile island that straddles two biological zones, diversity found nowhere else in Canada. While we cannot absolutely guarantee that you will see the great blue heron and a black tailed deer on your hike, we can assure you that it is very likely that all types of wildlife will be sharing the trails with us. It is very common to see deer grazing by the sides of our trails and at the very least we'll introduce you to our resident swan!

Can I pay with a credit card?

At this point we are not able to accept credit or debit cards as payment but even though we are a small island we do have several ATM machines within close walking distance and we will be happy to show you where the closest one is.

Do I need any special equipment or clothes?

Nope! All of our hikes are designed for anyone and everyone to enjoy, although we do not recommend wearing your new high heels. So lace up those runners and you'll be sure to have happy feet and happy memories on one of our hikes!

Is there a family or group discount?

If you are bringing your family along or even just a big group of friends, we will be happy to provide you with a group discount. Please call in advance to register your group.

Should I bring my own lunch for the full-day hikes?

For the full-day hikes snacks juices and water will be provided for your enjoyment. However we do recommend your bring a sandwich along with you as there will be a lunch stop at the top of the mountain where you'll be able to eat and enjoy the amazing view. Lunch services are available upon request if you decide you'd rather let us handle the preparation.
